Lee Shi Mei

Singaporean musician Lee Shi Mei received her Master of Music degree with Distinction in Violin Performance by the Longy School of Music, USA, and was awarded the Roman Totenberg Award by the Longy School of Music for stellar academic and artistic achievement.

Shi Mei also holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin and Piano Performance by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, USA.  She is a recipient of the National Arts Council Arts Bursary (Overseas) 2007, 2009-2011.

2nd Prize winner in the National Violin and Piano Competition 2007, Violin Artist Category, Shi Mei has performed as violin soloist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the President’s Young Performers Concert 2008.  In January 2015, she fulfilled her longtime dream by performing the complete Brahms Violin Sonatas with Singaporean pianist Lim Yan at the Esplanade Recital Studio.

Shi Mei’s passion for chamber music led her to perform at the LyricaFest 2010. She was violin, viola and piano faculty at Belvoir Terrace, Massachusetts, USA, a fine arts camp for children, and Performing Associate in the violin studio of Mikhail Kopelman at the Bowdoin International Music Festival 2012.

She is a regular freelance violinist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and performs regularly with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra and Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra as Principal Second Violin.

Shi Mei is grateful towards her former teachers Jacqueline Anne Lee, Laura Bossert, Sanford Margolis, Timothy Ku, Jin Li and Ong Lip Tat.  She currently teaches violin at the School of the Arts (SOTA) Singapore and Forte Musicademy.
