Day 1

Everyone touched down safely in Australia Brisbane airport and met up with those who have arrived a day earlier. The students temporarily leave the wings of their parents, in search for lunch at Brisbane South Bank. Thereafter, we visited Queensland Museum, taking in views of collections and artifacts relating to dinosaurs, reptiles, insects, other wildlife and some Anzac history. Checked in at Novotel South Bank and had dinner at the hotel cafe.

Day 2

We began the morning with a rigorous series of activities at Sippy Downs, collaborating with Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra. Students were split into two groups, the more advanced students rehearsing with Forté Camerata and the more junior students with Poco Camerata. Besides the prepared pieces, the students were challenged to sight-read and rehearse a new piece titled 'Breathless' within a short time and later performed in the concert as a massive ensemble group. We had the privilege of having a light lunch with SCYO, interacting further with their teachers and students. We truly appreciate the hospitality they have extended towards us.

Day 3

Collaborating with Mansfield State High School today, interacted with the students over a short tea break before rehearsals on several pieces together with Mansfield orchestra before Poco and Forté Camerata presented selected pieces. Visited Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where we explored the variety of wildlife Australia is known for. Despite the short but frequent showers of rain and lashes of wind, we finished the walk through the sanctuary.

Day 4

Spent a fruitful Wednesday at St. Peters Lutheran College, witnessing first-hand the high standards set in music education by their students and teachers. Poco and Forté Camerata collaborated with the ensembles of St. Peters and both schools presented performances for each other. The masterclasses led by Mr. David and Ms. Yvonne separately were enlightening as a reminder of basics being revisited at all stages of learning and all levels of playing, whilst exploring further challenges. Back at the hotel, Forté students, teachers and parents had a celebratory dinner together, presenting certificates to students as a momento of their invaluable experiences here in Brisbane.

Day 5

Arrived at Brisbane airport bright and early, all ready to embark on the journey back home to Singapore. Hopefully, with a new perspective and fresh mind towards what we do..
